This was a much-needed one night trek. I hiked 10 miles total along the Signal Knob trail.
Pre-established campsites are easy to find scattered mostly on the east side of the mountain. For future reference: no campsites are found near the fire road. I found a very spacious spot near the Meneaka Peak fork on the Tuscarora Trail.
One of my goals this year is to finish our surplus of expired backpacking meals. I started the season off with Natural High Honey Lime Chicken. It “expired” in 2018. With a few packets of Tapatío, it was good to go. Wasn’t even crunchy. By the time I finished feasting, it was dark.

The next morning, I made coffee and made it to the overlook at Signal Knob. Spoiler alert: there’s a signal tower at the top of Signal Knob. It might have been the microwaves, but I came off the mountain feeling very refreshed.
